Children's Lessons
Children's Lessons
Our programme for Primary school aged children is split into 5 stages
Non-swimmer, beginner, improver, advanced improver, advanced swimmer. Class sizes are a maximum of 6 children and children work through the 5 steps at each stage gaining new skills every term. There are skill and distance badges for each level to achieve before children are ready to move onto the next stage.

Stage 1 – Non-swimmer lessons
Our learn to swim lessons are structured to teach children of all ages front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. There are two classes available at this stage: one for children starting under the age of 7 and one for children who have not done any lessons previously and who are over 7 years of age.
Stage 2 – Beginner swim lessons
Are for children who are ready to work on developing more skills and improving technique, advancing in their understanding of breathing correctly on top of the water without additional support.

Stage 3 – Improver Lessons
At this stage children are able to swim 25m and are now ready to take more swim instructions and improve their front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke. The aim of this stage is to increase strength, safety and technique enabling them to swim further distances.
Stage 4 – Advanced Improver swim lessons
At this stage children are now swimming lengths regularly every week, learning new strokes and new skills whilst improving their swimming ability. This is achieved with longer swimming sessions and where possible attending more than one session a week.

Stage 5 – Advanced Swimmer
At this stage swimmers are training to become competent in all four strokes, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke front crawl. Our aim for this stage is to work towards learning advanced techniques, stronger swimming ability and a knowledge of life saving and survival skills.
This stage prepares children for swimming clubs or progressing into other sports. This is also achieved through longer and additional sessions.
