FAQ
What do I need to know before my lessons?
Don’t swim or come to a venue to bring a swimmer if you are unwell, have a temperature or other possible symptoms of an infectious disease.
For efficiency please come swim ready. Changing rooms are available before and after lessons, to rinse off only.
Bring your own equipment – goggles, swim hat and armbands/discs, puddle jumper. Please inflate armbands before your child enters the pool area. Your equipment stays your responsibility at all times so make sure to take it home with you.
All poolside areas are spectator free to maintain safety of our swimmers and teachers. We encourage distraction free, low noise environments conducive to learning. Each venue has its own recommendation for where parents can wait while their child’s lesson is in progress. Please see the pool information sheet for details.
Parents of new nervous swimmers or special needs children should speak to the office or the coordinator for guidance.
What happens at the start of lessons?
Please use the shower to rinse off before entering the water.
Please do not enter poolside until 5 minutes before your lesson starts.
You will be greeted by your teacher or pool coordinator.
What are our pool rules?
NO photography or filming of ANY lesson. We may occasionally take our own photos/video of the lessons for marketing and our own website. You will be given the opportunity to opt out of this on the day so we can ensure your child is not in any shots.
Swimmers will be expected to use the shower to rinse before getting into the pool. Use the showers to rinse after the lessons but do not use shampoo/shower gel, just rinse yourself off. No talcum powder to be used.
No food or drink poolside or in the changing rooms.
Please do not interfere with lessons as it disrupts the children’s teaching.
All outdoor footwear must be removed and you should bring flipflops with you. Outdoor footwear is NOT permitted once inside the building. Overshoes should be worn if the venue provides them.
No buggies to be brought into the building. You may bring a car seat in.
Please take all nappies home with you for disposal and do not put them in waste bins.
Please put all other rubbish in the bins provided when leaving.
Can we join lessons halfway through the term? What will we miss?
You are welcome to join us after a term of lessons has begun. You will only be charged for the number of lessons left to complete the term.
As repetition is the key to learning to swim, there will be plenty of opportunity for swimmers to practice technique already covered in class.
What happens if I have booked the wrong swimming level for a swimmer?
Our instructors will assess swimmers during their first lesson. If, for any reason, we feel the swimmer would be better placed in a different lesson we will move them at the time and discuss this change with you. This will also happen if you have selected the incorrect level at time of booking. If no spaces in a suitable class are available on the same day and time as your original booking you will be offered as close an alternative as possible.
What should I do if I have any queries about my swimming lessons?
If there is a coordinator at your pool then you can speak to them If the pool does not have a coordinator, please do not ask the instructor questions as this will take time away from yours or someone else’ lesson. In this case please contact the office by phone or email.
Does my child have to wear armbands and a swimming hat?
All children under 5 and non-swimmers are expected to wear some kind of flotation device – armbands, discs, life jacket, puddle jumper etc
Wearing swimming hats is mandatory for hygiene reasons. All swimmers must wear a swimming hat with the exception of those doing Parent and Baby lessons.
I’m a nervous adult beginner. How will this be managed?
Our friendly and highly experienced teachers will be in the water to make you feel at ease. They will encourage you to learn at a rate you are comfortable with. Please discuss any issues and concerns you have with them during your first lesson.
Will we have the same instructor every week?
Allocated teachers are scheduled to take swimming lessons weekly during term time. When an instructor is unable to attend we will provide a cover instructor. All teachers are trained in our methods to our high standards.
Can two parents get in the water with one child during our baby/toddler lessons?
Only one adult can accompany a child in the water per lesson. Parents/carers could alternate every other week for example to allow everyone to have a part in their child’s swimming journey.
